I thought I would jump start this column.

I like to leave my dome light off and because of that it can be difficult to see the ignition switch at times.  It would be great if there was some way to add a subtle LED around the switch.

I have not found anyway as of yet to do that and I am not ready to take apart my column to see if there is room to wire in an LED behind the switch and then see if enough light leaks through to accomplish what I need.  If anyone has done this or is already into a steering column disassembly, please consider trying this or maybe posting pics on the disassembly anyways.

The one alternative I did come across is a third best option (second best is shining a light in that area) and that is a glow in the dark ring that tapes on around the switch.

I do not know if the diameter is correct, but I am going to buy one and try it anyways.  When I do, I will let you know.

Mick15,

Can you be a little more specific on where to look or maybe give me a better search term?  I have tried "ignition switch surround" in the main page and searched all of the forums,; I have tried "ignition' and had only seven hits and none of them had this link.

I am still manually looking, but if you can point a little more, I would be grateful.

Later edit:

I have also tried interior lighting getting nine hits of which none are what I need.  - I'll keep trying

Just a follow-up

I looked on Ali Express and found this:

http://www.aliexpres...2046843077.html ,

but that is still a 3rd choice.  I really would like a way to use actual lights or LEDs (soft glow only) as the luminous part needs light originally to glow and I would prefer not to light up my interior with bright lights.

I finally purchased two options.

http://www.aliexpres...=70900206828938

and

http://www.aliexpres...=70900206788938

both of which have been talked about.  When I receive them I will update again.

How do you post pictures?  Seems like something has changed.

I ended up purchasing on of these and it took forever to figure out what was wrong with it.  The two wires, red and black were attached to the unit wrong.  An LED is polarized, so the one I received was black positive and red negative.  Well it sat in/on my steering column for a long while not connected.  When I finally figured what was wrong, (I had it out for a bit playing with it again) I put it back in and as I was connecting it, both wires broke off at the unit.   No way to re-solder, so I went to buy another and well, they quit making them.  So now I have a hacked up ignition surround with a hole in it.  I forgot to mention that the unit was about 3/32nd of an inch to narrow in diameter so I had to file off some of the plastic to make it fit.  So long story short - I need another one if anyone knows where to get one.

Just put some little led's streep inside key hole, it will work fine,

or add some kind of glass ring yourself,

the best way is including OEM aquablue led (Chevy's ambient light)  to make it shine like orginal one

What is that in the picture?  And where might I find the OEM Aquablue LEDs?

Thanks for following up regardless.
